The Natchitoches Parish Port is a multi-modal facility with river, five miles of rail space, and highway transportation options and the only slack water port on the Red River.

The Natchitoches Parish Port has access to several incentive programs, in addition to those administered by the Louisiana Department of Economic Development, that can be used to aid in the development of projects. The Port is located in an Enterprise Zone as well as a New Markets Tax Credit zone. The Port is eligible for grant funds through the State of Louisiana’s Port Construction and Development Port Priority Program, from the Red River Waterway Commission, the local sponsor of the Red River Waterway Project, as well as other state and federal programs. In addition, the Port has the capability to sell bonds and assist in funding projects.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • The Natchitoches Parish Port owns 600 acres, over 400 of which remains to be developed.

  • The oxbow on which the port is located has a capacity to stage 20 - 30 barges.

  • Corps of Engineers maintains a 9-foot by 200-foot navigation channel on the Red River.

  • Lock chambers have dimensions of 84' x 705' which will accommodate a six-barge tow.

  • Water transportation is one-third the cost of rail and one-fifth the cost of trucking.

  • The Port has over 5 miles of rail space within its complex and is served by the Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railroad.

  • The Port is located on U.S. Highways 71 and 84, Louisiana Highways 6 and 486 and is only 10 miles from I-49.

Driving Directions

From I-49, take Exit 138 (Natchitoches exit), follow LA Hwy 6 East to first traffic light. Turn left onto LA Hwy 1 By-Pass. Turn right at caution light onto LA Hwy 3175. Turn left at traffic light onto LA Hwy 6. Turn left onto LA Hwy 486 and cross the railroad tracks. Port entrance is on the left.

  • Located in Pool 3 of the Red River at river mile 152.2 (from the Mississippi River at the Old River Lock). Only slack water port on the Red River.

  • Served by the Kansas City Southern Railroad via Port rail spur; Port rail consists of over 5 miles of track which includes 2.75 miles of sidings.

  • Located on U.S. Highways 71 and 84, Louisiana Highways 6 and 486 and 10 miles from I-49.
